Maxon Introduces EC i 70 800W Brushless Motor for Cost-Sensitive High-Power Applications
Electromate Inc., the exclusive Canadian distributor of maxon precision motors and drive systems, announces the Canadian availability of the new maxon EC-i 70 800W brushless DC motor. The motor extends the EC-i family with a 70 mm platform designed for applications that need high output, flexible configuration, and a cost-optimized design without the ingress protection and industrial connectors of an enclosed servo motor.
Based on the established IDX70 motor design, the EC-i 70 800W is an iron-cored inner-runner motor with an aluminum flange and housing. Integrated Hall sensors are supplied as standard to simplify commutation and system integration. The motor has an open rear side and exposed connectors, making it suited to installations where the surrounding machine or enclosure provides the required environmental protection.
The EC-i 70 800W is available in two winding options: 48V, part number 940649, and 60V, part number 952543. Both versions are released for series production and available immediately.
Flexible mechanical and feedback configurations
The modular platform allows engineers to configure the motor for speed, torque, positioning, and packaging requirements. Compatible options include:
- AB 60 S brake
- GPX 70 planetary gearheads in Standard, Low Noise, and Ultra Performance versions
- GB9, GB12, and GB65 right-angle gearheads
- ENX 16 EASY encoder, including versions with absolute signals
- ENX 22 EMT multiturn absolute encoder for position detection across multiple revolutions
- Controller options include maxon ESCON2 servo controllers for speed and current control, plus EPOS4 positioning controllers with optional Safe Torque Off functionality.
Choosing between the EC-i 70 and IDX70
The EC-i 70 800W provides the core motor platform for cost-sensitive applications in protected installations. For applications requiring higher ingress protection, industrial connectors, or integrated electronics, maxon’s IDX servo motor family remains the appropriate choice.
