Kollmorgen Introduces AKME Series Servo Motors for Hazardous Locations

Electromate Inc. is pleased to announce the availability of the Kollmorgen AKME Series Servo Motors for Hazardous Locations, designed for use in hazardous environments requiring Zone 2 and Zone 22 certification. These new AKME motors extend the company’s hazardous location portfolio with a solution that combines compact form factors with high torque density and broad application suitability.

Built on the AKM motor platform’s track record for performance and reliability, the AKME Series fills a gap for Zone 2/22 servo motor options in markets where ignitable gases or dust may be present. The motors are offered in IEC frame sizes 2 through 7, compatible with drive voltages ranging from 48 Vdc up to 400 Vac, and deliver speeds up to 5 000 rpm. Various feedback configurations are supported, including resolver, SFD-M, ComCoder, EnDat, Hiperface and BiSS B, enabling precise control and adaptability for diverse machine designs.

These servo motors are designed to pair effectively with Kollmorgen drive products, such as AKD, AKD2G and Kollmorgen Essentials™ (KED) drives, bringing together high responsiveness and motion control precision in a complete system.

The AKME Series has achieved both ATEX and IECEx certifications, satisfying European Union and international standards for equipment operating in potentially explosive atmospheres. These approvals make the motors suitable for applications in pharmaceutical manufacturing, food processing, grain handling, paint booths and similar environments where gas or dust hazards exist.
