Endress+Hauser’s compact Micropilot FMR43 makes no performance compromises
The Micropilot FMR43 (Centre) is part of Endress+Hauser’s new Compact Line, three small, full performance measuring instruments for the Life Sciences and Food and Beverage industries. Each of these instruments were designed to address the growing need in those industries for devices that could suit smaller tanks, pipes and containers.

Less, and yet not less: Endress+Hauser’s compact Micropilot FMR43 makes no performance compromises

Designed for the life sciences and food and beverage industries, Endress+Hauser’s compact Micropilot FMR43 free space radar for continuous monitoring delivers full measurement performance in a format the size of a smart phone. The Micropilot FMR43 is part of the instrumentation leader’s new Compact Line, which addresses the need of these industries for smaller hygienic measurement devices for small vessels and pipes. Then again, the powerful, no-compromise performance capability of the Compact Line also makes them perfectly suitable for large tanks and silos.

The Micropilot FMR43’s proven 80GHz radar technology – with an exceptionally fast, best-in-class 16 readings per minute – provides excellent reliability even under rapidly changing or turbulent process conditions. There also is a 180 GHz sensor variant with an especially small process connection, another best-in-class feature for use in particularly small process tanks and containers. With either frequency sensor, narrow installation situations, such as those often found in skids for milk and beverage processing are no longer a challenge.

The instrument’s combination of small size, scalability and outstanding performance makes the Micropilot FMR43 suitable for a wide range of applications up to 15 m: mixing applications of viscous and low conductive media, filling applications of viscous media, storage of low conductive fluids and level measurement in tanks with changing media density. The unit’s checksum algorithm (CRC)  ensures that process and product safety relevant parameters remain unchanged.

The Micropilot FMR43’s 360-degree hygienic design and IP69 ingress protection class enable efficient cleaning and sterilization (CIP, SIP). The fully welded, stainless-steel unit can remain in place during cleaning and sterilization cycles. This saves time and simplifies these procedures. As the display is gap-free, there is no risk of contamination.

The Micropilot FMR43 also excels with fast simple setup and ease of use via guided wizards and with its flexible display options. The latter include either a highly visible LED with one-touch control button commissioning, or an intuitive color touch display for on-board commissioning in just a few minutes or equally fast via Bluetooth with Endress+Hauser’s SmartBlue App on a phone or tablet. Digital communication is assured via 2-wire HART, IO-Link – both suitable for integration into asset management systems – or Bluetooth.

With Endress+Hauser’s proprietary Heartbeat Technology on board, the radar’s accuracy can be verified, on demand, without disassembly or process interruption. Heartbeat Technology functionalities combined with reliable and comprehensive diagnostics, process and device monitoring can detect process anomalies such as foam formation or build-up at an early stage. This reduces the risk of plant shutdowns. Early and accurate foam detection also can result in more efficient use of anti-foam agents for cost savings.

Using the traceable in-situ verification function of Heartbeat Technology, calibration intervals can be optimized using the Radar Accuracy Index (RAI). The RAI evaluates  the reference measurement accuracy during traceable verification according to ISO 9001 to analyze a possible measurement drift compared to the validated state via factory calibration. Verification is carried out on demand, in less than three minutes without dismantling or process interruption and with automatic documentation, In this way, plant operators always have transparency regarding the accuracy of Micropilot FMR43.

The device’s 360 degree tamper proof design is certified hygienic (3-A, EHEDG, ASME BPE), assuring proven material compliance and traceability.

The new measuring instruments of the Compact Line also include the Liquiphant FTL43 and a pending pressure measurement sensor. All three devices use the identical user interface. This makes installing, commissioning and operating them easier and more intuitive than ever. Numerous digital wizards guide users through commissioning, parameterization and maintenance. This saves valuable time and helps to prevent human errors. All analyses, controls, maintenance, or function checks also can be conveniently performed remotely using Bluetooth and the SmartBlue app.
