Save Valuable Commissioning Time With the SDBT-MSX Proximity Sensor

Proximity sensors play an important role in pneumatic drive applications. These devices work by detecting the piston magnet’s magnetic field, providing valuable binary feedback on the piston’s position. At Festo, they have taken the benefits of proximity sensors further with the SDBT-MSX — the first switch with automatic switching point detection, making commissioning faster and easier than ever before.

Here’s an overview of the features and benefits of the SDBT-MSX sensor.

Auto Teach-In and Programming Options

The SDBT-MSX is an electronic proximity sensor for pneumatic cylinders with T-slots. Once you install it on your cylinder in the approximate end position, simply connect the cable to the controller and then switch on the system — no further adjustments, fine-tuning or power supply required.

An alternative option is to use the SDBT-MSX switch’s capacitive control button, enabling you to program the switching point manually. With this feature, you can define whether to use PNP/NPN or NO/NC sensor types. You can also set the switching window from 2 to 15 millimeters (mm).

Additional Features and Benefits

With a length of just 26 mm, the SDBT-MSX is suitable for industrial applications with difficult or hard-to-reach mounting. At the same time, it’s exceptionally sturdy, featuring IP65 and IP68 ratings. Thanks to its combination of features, the SDBT-MSX is ideal for applications in factory automation, electronics and small parts handling.

Additional features include the following:

  • A detection range of 20 mm.
  • Compatibility with Festo drives with T-slot. Options from Festo include the DSBC, DFM, DSNU, ADN and DGST series.
  • High cable quality: 3-wire and M8 plug and open end.
  • Two LEDs that display teach-in mode, sensing range and switching output (ON).
  • Sturdy yet simple mounting: a captive screw securely retains the device in the slot.
