GERMAN INNOVATION AWARD 2025: Smart Automation with the EZU Centric Gripper
The EZU mechatronic centric gripper creates new possibilities in flexible automation. It convinced the jury of the German Innovation Award with his innovative functional concept.

The EZU mechatronic centric gripper from SCHUNK simplifies flexible loading and unloading of cylindrical workpieces – reliably, efficiently and with future-proof technology. The sophisticated concept also impressed the jury of the German Innovation Award 2025.

“Our mechatronic gripper is based on a standardized functional concept, enabling customers to map their gripping processes consistently – even if requirements vary,” emphasizes Oliver Herbrik, Head of Product Sales Mechatronic at SCHUNK. “The EZU centric gripper is not only versatile in its application, but thanks to its wide range of interfaces and plug-and-play functionality, it can also be easily integrated into existing systems.”

Smart and quick to integrate

The EZU is ideally suitable for handling cylindrical and eccentrically positioned workpieces – even with large partial variations. Its robust design makes it a reliable partner in demanding production environments such as flexible machine loading. Thanks to numerous adjustment options, such as variable stroke and adjustable gripping force, it adapts easily to different requirements. With the “StrongGrip” function, it also offers a powerful option for particularly challenging gripping tasks. Commissioning, monitoring, and adjustment are carried out comfortably via the digital SCHUNK Control Center.

In addition, the EZU can receive updates and expand its range of applications with new functions. “The German Innovation Award makes us proud and shows that we are on the right track with our smart concepts,” says Herbrik. Thanks to its easy integration, the high energy efficiency of the electric drive and its process reliability, it contributes to increasing productivity potential.

About the German Innovation Award

The German Innovation Award is presented annually by the German Design Council. It distinguishes products, technologies, and services that take new, innovative paths and offer solutions that stand out for their added value. An independent jury of experts from the fields of technology, science, and business awards the German Innovation Award 2025. They assess the entries based on the degree of innovation, benefits, economic relevance and sustainability. – as well as market readiness, technical quality, and future potential. SCHUNK received the award in the category “Excellence in Business-to-Business – Machines & Engineering.”
