Parker Hannifin Corporation, the global leader in motion and control technologies, today announced the availability of a new hydraulic cylinder 3D CAD (computer-aided design) tool. Parker’s hydraulic cylinders can now be configured quickly and easily after making selections from drop-down menus, which helps to ensure accuracy of the cylinder design. 2D CAD, 3D CAD or graphics files are automatically generated in any of 109 output formats.

Accessible from www.parker.com, users simply make cylinder feature selections, such as bore size, mounting method, ports, glands, seals, piston types and modifications, stroke length, etc. form a page of drop-down menus. Within a few seconds, users can be examining wireframe, cutaway, or shaded views in 2D, as well as in 3D (when viewed with 3D glasses).

“The preview function, faster download speed and the number of output formats are key features that will save engineering time”, said Bruce Kohlmeyer division engineering manager. “With our legacy tool, users had a very limited range of CAD output options, our new tool has hundreds of output formats, so customers will be able to use a format they are familiar with. CAD drawings are now available for immediate download, in fact we are seeing a 50% improvement in download speed. And, users will like the preview feature, which gives the ability to preview configurations, and make changes before downloading a formal drawing.”

2D CAD, 3D CAD or graphics file can be downloaded to the user’s hard drive. The list of 109 different CAD and graphics options includes multiple generations of many of the most popular CAD formats. A three-page datasheet for the configured cylinder is also available for download, which includes an interactive 3D graphic preview, dimensional drawings of the cylinder from various angles and a listing of the technical data the user entered into the configurator.

The simple to use, menu driven tool currently supports Parker’s Gen II Series 2H, 2HD, 2HB, 3H, 3HD, & 3HB heavy duty hydraulic tie rod & non-tie rod cylinders. Additional hydraulic cylinder series including the 2HX/3HX family, will be incorporated in the coming months.
