Sheridan College, a major partner of Skills Ontario, has been announced as the host of the Industrial Mechanics category for the 2022 WorldSkills Competition Special Edition this fall. This prestigious event provides young competitors with a global opportunity to compete in their skilled trade field. Sheridan College was selected through Canada’s WorldSkills member, Skills/Compétences Canada.

“On behalf of Skills Ontario, we congratulate Sheridan College on securing this incredible opportunity,” says Ian Howcroft, CEO of Skills Ontario. “It is crucial for young Ontarians to not only explore opportunities in the skilled trades and technologies, but also to be given the opportunity to strengthen their skills and advance in their careers. Skilled trades and technologies offer incredible pathways, and through our partnerships, Skills Ontario can highlight that to youth and to help support Ontario’s future leaders’ career exploration journeys.”

“We are so excited to welcome students from around the world to Sheridan to compete in the Industrial Mechanics competition for the 2022 WorldSkills Competition Special Edition,” says Lindsey Engel, Dean of Sheridan College’s Faculty of Applied Science and Technology (FAST). “Sheridan’s cutting-edge facilities are second to none, and I am thrilled to showcase our expertise in the skills trades on an international stage.”

“Skills/Compétences Canada is thrilled that Canada was selected to host the Industrial Mechanics Skill Area for the 2022 WorldSkills Competition Special Edition. Skills Competitions are a great way to inspire youth and help them gain a better understanding of skilled trade and technology driven occupations,” said Shaun Thorson, Chief Executive Officer, Skills/Compétences Canada.

According to Sheridan College’s release, “Sheridan will welcome between 60 to 70 country/region representatives, including nine competitors, to the Magna Skilled Trades Centre, at Sheridan’s Davis campus in Brampton.
