Linear Transducers with Redundancy Add Insurance to Critical Uptime Applications

October 13, 2020

With up to three independent measuring systems operating concurrently in a single housing, Balluff’s new fail-safe magnetostrictive  linear position sensors with digital interfaces ensure uninterrupted processing for uptime critical applications.

Available in four form factors to meet specific application needs, each of these new rod-style transducers has either two or three separate sets of electronics and sensing elements operating concurrently in in a single housing.

“People are interested in redundancy when downtime cannot be tolerated. In uptime critical applications, when downtime would only be costly but could also be catastrophic, having redundant measuring is like having an insurance policy. Three concurrent measurements allow for continuous and reliable data comparison,” said Balluff  After Sales Technical Support Engineer Scott Rosenberger.

Each of the newest additions to the Balluff linear transducer portfolio is available with either SSI and Start/Stop digital interface. These new digital versions are less noise susceptible while offering greater resolution. They deliver up to 1000 Hz sampling frequency for  fast data acquisition. They are pressure rated to 600 bar and provide an IP67 rating, so they are insensitive to contamination and can stand up to harsh environments.

And like all Balluff magnetostrictive linear position sensors, these feature high repeatability and are wear free thanks to non-contact measurement

Key features:

  •    –   Redundant position measurement
  •    –   Broad product range: four different form factors with two digital interfaces each (SSI and Start/Stop)
  •    –   Resolution down to 0.5 µm
  •    –   IP67 – Insensitive to contamination
  •    –   Selectable output signals via software tool
