Right-fit laser displacement sensing for stable small-object detection and simple measurement, without meterology-grade complexity

The OMRON ZP-L Series is a laser displacement sensor positioned between photoelectric sensors and high-end measurement systems. It provides stable, high-resolution displacement and position feedback for applications where photoeyes lack reliability, but precision metrology adds unnecessary cost and complexity. A compact sensor head, wide-angle measurement capability, and advanced sensing algorithms enable reliable detection across varying materials and surfaces. Intuitive OLED amplifiers, analog and network outputs, and Wave Inspire support software help reduce commissioning time, minimize downtime, and simplify multi-sensor integration.

Overview

The ZP-L Series expands OMRON’s sensing portfolio with a practical displacement platform for quality control, positioning, and basic closed-loop control. Designed for digital and automotive manufacturing, ZP-L supports detection and measurement of very small objects, approximately 1 mm and below, where photoelectric sensors struggle. By delivering greater stability and resolution than photoeyes, without the integration burden of metrology-grade systems, ZP-L helps OEMs and end users reduce false rejects, limit redesign iterations, and maintain consistent process performance.

Key Features

  • Stable sensing on difficult surfaces
    • Advanced algorithms with wide dynamic range support spot and line beam detection across varied materials.
  • Right‑fit measurement performance
    • Up to 0.5 μm resolution with stable output for simple displacement and dimensional checks.
  • Flexible, compact installation
    • Small sensor head with wide‑angle measurement up to ±85° for tight or non‑ideal mounting.
  • Fast setup and easy integration
    • OLED display, Wave Inspire software, and analog, EtherNet/IP, and IO‑Link connectivity reduce commissioning time.
